The wide range of learning environments that exist in South Africa requires that Siyavula’s textbooks are available for variety of devices and in a range of different formats. Whether your school requires you to bring an iPad to class or whether you share a printed textbook amongst a group of peers, we are striving to make Siyavula’s resources accessible to you.
Hard copy textbooks available
If you are a learner at a government school, you should have received the hard copy version of our books, which were printed and distributed by the Department of Basic Education. If you have not received our books you can always order a hard copy straight from us here: order books.
Use the hard copy books in conjunction with a projector
Our books can be read and download from our website for free. If you haven’t visited our EverythingMaths and EverythingScience websites yet, you are missing out. The Siyavula textbooks are filled with curriculum-aligned rich media such as videos, simulations and slideshow presentations. This means that using them online becomes a completely interactive experience. The printed textbooks indicate where there is rich-media available for a particular section. If you have access to a projector in class you can use the web-based book as a powerful teaching aid, bringing to life the concepts within the book. This interactive book is also available as an offline version so no internet connection is required.
The Siyavula textbooks available on the iPad
Because more and more South African schools are going digital, Siyavula has ensured that our resources are compatible with different computing devices. You can download the PDF for free straight from our websites or you can view our interactive textbooks in your iPad’s browser.
The Siyavula textbooks available on the Kindle
No matter what your device of choice is the Siyavula textbook will work for you. You can download our PDF file from our websites and read it on your Amazon Kindle. You can also access our websites and read our books online, using your Kindle’s built-in web browser.
Siyavula textbooks available over mobile
You can now take your textbooks with you wherever you go, or introduce mobile learning into your classroom. You can read our textbooks on your phone and, depending on your phone model, you may also be able to view all the added rich-media included in the online version of the books. The mobile books also include worked solutions to all the exercises in the book. Visit our mobile sites: m.everythingmaths.co.za and m.everythingscience.co.za.
Hard copy books used in conjunction with online books
For the greatest learning experience it is recommended that you use the hardcopy books in conjunction with the online version of the books. The online version is supplemented with open source rich-media carefully chosen to complement the South African curriculum. This interactive rich media caters for different learning styles. It also gives learners a chance to catch up on a lesson they may have missed, or to “practise” science experiments without the required apparatus or laboratory risks involved.
Links to online videos are to be found throughout the hard copy books:
In the photograph below, the link to the simulation is provided at the bottom of the page in the hard copy book. The same simulation is also shown on the computer screen:
Here at Siyavula we are continuously working to make our textbooks more accessible to as wide an audience as possible. If you have any suggestions about how we can further adapt our resources in order to reach more learners and educators we would love to hear from you. We encourage you to try the Siyavula textbooks on a new device and give us your feedback.
