Company description
Siyavula is a social enterprise intent on sustainably driving an innovative education agenda, to address the myriad of challenges faced by educators around the world and to restore a love for learning and teaching.
A key requirement to fulfilling this mission is enabling the provision of localised, relevant, up-to-date learning experiences when, where and how they are required. In this spirit the activities that Siyavula conducts are built on three pillars: community, technology and openness, with a view to improving education at all levels and in all areas. We offer the following products and service:
-
Openly-licensed Siyavula textbooks
The Siyavula Mathematics and Science textbooks are available for Grades 10, 11 and 12. These curriculum-aligned textbooks come alive online as they are filled with interactive rich media such as videos, simulations and powerpoint presentations. This interactive rich media gives learners a chance to catch up on a lesson they may have missed or “practice” science experiments without the required apparatus or laboratory risks involved. We are adding Life Science and Maths Literacy to our titles for 2013. Find our more here: http://everythingscience.co.za/
-
Intelligent practice
Siyavula has also developed an online practice service which is well integrated with the textbooks. Learners are able to assess whether they have understood the concepts covered throughout the curriculum-aligned Siyavula textbooks. The practice service is linked to the corresponding chapters, thus a learner can monitor their progress as they work through the textbook. The questions are similar to those found in tests and exam papers and progress is measured in terms of how well a learner does and how often they are practising. All answers are given as step-by-step worked solutions and are modelled on the worked examples in the textbooks. You can find out more here: http://everythingscience.co.za/online-practice-information
